From “the little church up Yonge Street” in 1842 to what is now Toronto’s largest Anglican Church, St. Paul’s Bloor Street is a diverse, caring and authentic Christian community, striving to follow Jesus together and meet the needs of an urban city. At St. Paul’s, we envision:

A church made alive by the power of the Holy Spirit A city made new by the gospel of Jesus Christ A people made whole by the grace of God

We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for people, a heart to serve and a commitment to our mission, vision and values to join our Operations team as the new Finance Manager.

The Finance Manager will be responsible for managing and coordinating the financial administration to support the mission and vision of St. Paul’s. Among others, some of the key functions will include:

Transactions • Oversee full cycle accounting and month-end process. • Responsible for the integrity and accuracy of the church’s accounting transactions and records. • Prepare deposits and post all transactions and journal entries after reviewing. • Record and reconcile investment transactions at least quarterly.

Audit and Compliance • Coordinate year-end audit with external auditors and assist in the preparation of audit schedules, data, and information. • Prepare all required government submissions, including T3010, HST and payroll requirements, in a timely manner. • Ensure compliance with CRA legal requirements by staying up to date on new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.

Reporting and Administration • Summarize current financial status and generate accurate monthly financial reports, including variance analysis reports. • Direct, and approve all financial reporting, including audited financial statements. • Supervise bookkeepers by coordinating activities and answering questions. • Report to and provide staff support to the Audit & Finance and the Investment Committees including compliance with and regular review of key policies.

To successfully fill this role, we’re looking for someone with at least three years’ experience in accounting and/or finance in the charitable sector and who has (or is working towards) their CPA designation. From this experience, you will have managed and reported on multiple programs and gained the knowledge base needed to carry out the day to day accounting and finance related functions in compliance with CRA regulations.

In return, you’ll be working with a dedicated group of individuals who pitch in to help each other when needed, like to laugh and most importantly, have a heart for ministry work. Your office will be in an historic building in downtown Toronto complete with magnificent stone archways, stained-glass windows and a stunning glass atrium (with parking for only $10 a month). And finally, you’ll be part of a community that actively partners with and supports leading organizations across the city to make life better for all – from homelessness to food insecurity to welcoming newcomers.
